PRESS RELEASE: Botswana to Host Workplace Wellbeing and Productivity Summit

Gaborone, Botswana – Psych Matters, in partnership with the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC), proudly presents the Workplace Wellbeing and Productivity Summit, taking place 14–15 August 2025 at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone. Held under the theme:

“Promoting Decent Jobs and Work-Environments That Ensure Prosperity for ALL,”

Anchored in Botswana’s Vision 2036 and aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 on decent work and economic growth, the summit responds to urgent national challenges. Labour productivity declined from 2.234 in 2023 to 0.378 in 2024, while worsening workplace stress and declining employee wellbeing continue to impact both productivity and national output. The summit aims to elevate awareness and share actionable strategies to enhance employee wellbeing and productivity in the country.

It seeks to bring together key actors from government, the private sector, academia, civil society, and labour movements. However, it is more than a mere gathering—it is a call to action. It seeks to raise awareness and spark bold conversations on employee wellbeing across six interconnected sub themes namely, (i) employee health in the workplace, (ii) financial wellbeing, (iii) labour productivity and job creation, (iv) leadership and management’s role in employee wellbeing, (v) the impact of technology and innovation, and (vi) the design and implementation of effective workplace wellness programmes. It will feature a rich line-up of experts who will deliver insights on these sub themes.

The summit will equip participants with practical tools and evidence-based strategies to enhance productivity and wellbeing within their organisations. Delegates will benefit from HRDC-accredited learning under the Psych Matters course, gaining credentials that contribute to professional and institutional development. It offers a rare opportunity for cross-sectoral learning and networking at a time when poor health, stress, indebtedness, and disengagement are placing a heavy burden on employers and the economy.

With experts citing the need for urgent action—backed by findings from the Bank of Botswana, WHO, and World Population Review—this summit is a timely intervention to reposition Botswana’s workforce for long-term growth and sustainability. It reinforces the truth that decent work and wellbeing are not just human rights; they are the very engine of national competitiveness.

Organizations, policymakers, HR professionals, and business leaders are encouraged to attend and contribute to shaping a more resilient, competitive, and people-centred economy.
